Beenleigh Scouts sent two patrols each with 5 scouts to Butterfly 2012 at Murrenbong Campsite over the Weekend of 17 and 18 March. There were about 77 patrols taking part in the activity. The Weekend involved the scouts navigating themselves between 8 activity bases. the weekends theme was endangered animals. Each bases activity was bases around endangered animals. Hathi was assigned to Dingo base.
The activity at Dingo base was to feed a very savage endangered animal located within a pen. the patrol was split into two with a group at either end. The object was to deliver food and water to the animal. Four roped were used to control the delivery of the food and water. 25 points were awarded for each piece of food delivered which there were three and then 5 points for each cup of water with a max of 25 points. Also they would loose 20 points if any one of their patrol crossed a line at either end. Also they had to complete it within 20 minutes but after 15 minutes they lost 5 points for each minute over.
At 5:00 pm which ever base the patrol was at then that was where they were to set up camp, and cook dinner. Activities were planned to be run for the scouts at the base after dinner and before lights out. Well along came the rain, and rain. The next morning the scouts had breakfast completed the activity if they had not already done so and then continued. After completing an activity the scouts were given a code and a key to determine their next activity co-ordinates. If they got it wrong then there was a chance that they would miss a base. If they missed a base then there was no way of getting them back to that activity as each base could only give the code to get them to the next base. There were a number of patrols that came through that had misses a base or two.
At the end of the second day all their points were added up. Beenleigh Koala Patrol lead by Kyle came in the top 10. Well done to Koala Patrol. Well done to Scorpion patrol lead by Sophie. Not sure what place they got but they finished.
