BUTTERFLY is a Wide Game - Patrols move from a Base to 7 others, and display Initiative along with their Training from you in the Troop situation. You are not to send Patrols to the event, unless a Leader from the Troop is on site. You do not attend, unless Patrols from your troop are participating Troop Scouters are needed to staff the bases, which Patrols endeavour to attend by way of their Map Reading skills
It is important that you arrange the troop transport so that you are on site to assist in your duties on the Base as determined by the Base Leader. This may well mean the Patrol being idle for 2 hours prior to the Start time of . Wherever the Patrol is just prior to Sundown, they must remain and set up camp. They do not camp alone between Bases
Their equipment is carried at all times The more they carry the more miserable is the walking Supervision required by you at the planning time If they complete the Course they will have walked 3,5 Kms The event closes with a Parade at 11.30 AM Sunday
Transporting parents will be advised of the location when your troops Application Form is acknowledged. At this point you will also be advised the location of Activity.
Patrol Leaders A few points you need to know about next BUTTERFLY
You are privileged to have been appointed a PATROL LEADER With this comes a lot of Responsibility as your Patrol depends on you to do well on this occasion
Firstly YOU must LEAD – this requires you to THINK and PLAN
Do we need to take a normal tent, as it is only for one night and it has to be carried ? What are we going to eat Do we need to make a fire as a consequence ? After all it is only for one Evening meal and one Breakfast. Will we share all this – a bit in every kids pack
How small can we make the Pack – after all, the heavier it is, the more annoying it is
This year you are allowed to carry a MOBILE PHONE - one per Patrol, but you must be verycareful how many times you use it, and it to be used only as an Emergency contact to your Scout Leader who will be at one of the Bases
But you must not use it to ring another Patrol, as the Information of your next Base is in code for you only and even if you did, you would be heavily penalised because the system has been designed to stop you doing this.
As the “ Theme “ is ENDANGERED ANIMALS \you have to be prepared to seek them out across the Course and become involved at each of the eight Bases concerning them This could involve you climbing trees, using ropes, and being very observant where poachers are concerned
The weather should be OK but you must still wear a suitable hat and footwear Uniform not required
Because we are in the bush there could be some small accidents – so you need to brush up on First Aid They may also be snakes, What would you do if you saw one ?
Although You will coordinate Patrol Planning you must involve the Scout Leader for their advice
It doesn’t matter if you don’t win, but you sure will learn a lot and that is far more important
When you have considered all this, you must make absolutely sure that the APPLICATION FORMHas been properly completed and sent in by the closing date Monday 27 February as this year
