Photoshop Brushes with Textures

To contact us Click HERE
Today I have something a little different for you. I've been busy creating some new Photoshop Brushes with some new textures. I have a tendency to use brushes more as overlay textures for adding texture to images and collages, and I find it easier to keep them in brush format because they're easier to find and load that full image files, and because you can select the colour you want to use for a brush, it's also easier to get the colours right than having to change a colour in an image file and it keeps your file sizes a little smaller than adding full images. A few of the brushes are bundled with 2 or 3 brushes in the set, but most are individual .abr files. Although these were created in Photoshop (CS5), almost any image editor that will accept an .abr file can make use of these too.  All of these brushes are uploaded and ready for download, but you'll need to get them from Free-3D-Textures.com in the Photoshop Brush Section (all of these are on Page 3). For any whose sort of new to Photoshop, in order to install these brushes you simply drop them into your photoshop program files (usually found in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Brushes). The next time you open Photoshop, the brushes should be in the brush listing.

The first couple of brushes were created from a high-resolution photo of wood barks (2 different types). You'll note in the image below I've included a sample photo showing one of the brushes used an overlay to add interest and texture to a simple photo of a plant and vase:

The above image uses the WoodBark-2 Photoshop Brush in two colours to create the texture you see in the photo, and below you can see an example of WoodBark-1.

Other brushes included in the new batch are foamy waters (2 brushes);  mortared stone (2 brushes);  veined granite (2 brushes); textured bricks (3 brushes); streaks and rivets; leafy ground cover; and last (but not least) a blank monthly calendar grid you can use for making your own calendars.

Leafy Ground Cover - in the above example photo, the brush has been added over just the lake giving a mottled appearance to the water.

Okay ... that's it for today. Happy editing folks!

2013 Pocket Calendar and 3-Part Folding Calendar

To contact us Click HERE
There's been a lot of strange stuff going on in my little world over the past few months. One of the reasons I haven't been updating as often as normal. Family is having health issues - pretty serious in fact - and I'm spending most of my time at the hospital these days with my husband. I suppose making new calendar templates/designs is really the last thing on my mind right now, so I'm not sure how fast I'll be updating calendars over the next few months. It is going to depend on how much time I spend at the different hospitals.

Right before all of that started I had begun some design work on a couple of new calendars; a single pocket calendar, and a tri-fold 3 year calendar standing calendar for use on a desk or shelf. I finally managed to get these completed and uploaded, so while I had a few spare minutes I thought I'd write a short post and release these before it's too late. The single-pocket calendar is for 2013, so it's a tiny bit late, but we still have most of 2013 to go so it could still be useful. The tri-fold calendar has three years, beginning with 2013 and going to 2015, so it's still going to be time-appropriate.

The .psd files allow you to put your own photo on the front of the single-pocket, and allow for changing the colour of the frame design and year text in the tri-fold. These aren't complicated files, since the calendar dates aren't editable.

Pocket Calendar Front
Pocket Calendar Back
This is the design for the front of the single pocket calendar. I chose a vintage newspaper from our family history records and scanned that in as the background. The I used one of my dad's old photos of a vintage car. You can keep that in place if you like it, or you can replace the backgrounds with something of your own. In the .psd file, the business title, tag line, and other text can all be edited, so you can put your own business name, or whatever else you want, and it includes both the back and front of the calendar, rather than having two separate files. Just as a note of interest - the newspaper was an article on President Kennedy from the 1960s.  The back of the calendar has a yearly calendar, and some blank lines for writing numbers or small reminder notes for the user. Download the .psd file for this single-pocket calendar here.

The tri-fold calendar is fairly basic - navy blue outlines with an open swirled frame around the year (by the way, this open frame has been created as a free photoshop brush, which you can download from the PS Brushes section on Free-3D-Textures.com). The colour outlines and frames are also available in red, black and apple green in the .psd file (you can change the colour of this framework using the "replace colour" option in photoshop). The calendars are black, navy and red, so the basic calendar will work well with any of those colours in the framework. You can download the .psd file here.

Numbers Perpetual Daily Calendar

Wow! Do I have a treat for you! Here is my first attempt at a perpetual Calendar. This is Perpetual Daily Calendar for Numbers. Just select the date and your schedule is built for you. You can even adjust the time intervals. It’s truly a gem of a template. Unfortunately it only works a day at a time, but there is hope yet for the future. You can print it off if you’d like. Do several days in a row and you’ll be all set.

Unfortunately it uses some formulas that are not supported by iWork ’08 so I just have the iWork ’09 and iOS versions available. I really hope you like this template. I’m thinking about doing more along this idea.
